Lori Cox

Dr. Lori Vitale Cox is a community clinician in Elsipogtog FN, founder and Director of the Eastern Door Center for diagnosis, prevention and intervention of complex trauma related neurobehavioral disorders. She founded the Nogemag Healing Lodge for youth, a healing on the land program. . She has been active in research, diagnosis, and intervention for many years designing the Medicine Wheel Tools in collaboration with Indigenous Elders. She earned a Masters and PhD from Dalhousie University in Halifax. She is also an adjunct professor at UBC Department of Pediatrics, Faculty of Medicine

Re-balancing the wheel at the Eastern Door —A Two Eyed Seeing Approach to healing trauma based conditions such as FASD,

In this presentation I will describe the TES approach of the Eastern Door and the MW tools that have been developed in the community. Also the role that the Elsipogtog school and teachers played and play in identifying and healing the trauma based conditions of some do the youth in the community. I will discuss the results of this approach in terms of individual as well as system success with alternative approaches like healing on the land.
