
Leroy Fontaine
Leroy Fontaine is a proud member of the Denesuline Tribe and Chipewyan Prairie First Nation. Raised in the Treaty 8 Territory of Northern Alberta, he spent his early years on the reservation before moving to Fort McMurray to pursue opportunities in sports and education.
Growing up in an environment where adversity was ever-present, Leroy made the courageous decision to dream big despite the challenges around him. His journey took him from the football fields of Fort McMurray to the 2010 CFL draft, earning two college diplomas and a bachelor’s degree along the way. Today, Leroy is a dedicated career firefighter with over a decade of service and a passionate advocate for Indigenous culture in the workplace.
Leroy’s inspiration has always stemmed from community—both locally and nationally. He is driven by a deep commitment to being a positive role model and leading by example, serving as a beacon of hope for Indigenous youth. Through his lived experience, he encourages others to chase their dreams, no matter the obstacles they may face.
