Equity in Action Mi'kma'ki

The Equity in Action framework, developed in British Columbia, creates an opportunity for provincial schools to be guided by Community to recognize and address systemic barriers experienced by Mi’kmaw and Indigenous learners. With guidance of Elders, Knowledge Holders, and Mi’kmaw Education Co-ordinators the Equity in Action framework has grown so that it is now anchored in the Mi’kmaw Education Model that guides the work withing Mi’kmaw Services Branch.

GuysWork – Disrupting Traditional Masculinity Norms

GuysWork is a transformative school-based program to help young men disrupt traditional masculinity norms that are impacting their health, and the health of their peers. It has been a curriculum-aligned program in Nova Scotia schools since 2012 for grade nine guys, and now has lessons for guys in grades seven, eight and nine. With federal and provincial funding GuysWork is starting a three-year pilot project across Atlantic Canada to see how multiple “doses” of the programming can move beyond positive changes in attitudes to helpful changes in behaviour.
